In 17th century, Muslims of Subcontinent did not have the
slightest notion that one day they will strive for gaining a country. All was
well until British arrived in Subcontinent for trading. They requested the
Mughal Emperors for trading and the Badshahs granted permission happily.
Trade began and continued until
the British began to mingle in affairs of Indian rulers. British played their
role very cunningly. They even fought the War of Freedom in 1857 and won it.
Then they officially began their rule in the Subcontinent. British Viceroys and
officials were appointed in India. Hindus were appointed as clerks while
Muslims were suppressed down with the lower jobs. It was hard for Muslims to
believe that their rule in the Indo Pak Subcontinent has come to an end. They
were also forbidden to obey the teachings of Islam. Soon they were
also deprived of their basic Human rights by both the British and the Hindus.
Muslim leaders like Moulana Muhammad Ali Jouhar started their struggle for
supporting the Muslims of Subcontinent. Leaders like these opened great
Institutions like the Alighar University and resolved the issues like the
famous HINDI URDU CONTROVERSY in 1867. Things turned better for Muslims
afterwards but still they were under the oppression of British people and
Hindus. Keeping in view all these circumstances, Allama Muhammad Iqbal (also
known as the Poet of East) proposed an idea of a separate state for the Muslims
in the North West of India where Muslims were located in majority.
1940 was a very special year for the
Muslims as it confirmed the willpower of Muslims for gaining a new country. A
resolution was presided by Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Lahore where Muslims showed
it to the British and the Hindus that their demand for formation of a country
is genuine. This resolution is called the Pakistan Resolution and
its celebrated every year on March.23 in Pakistan with complete zeal and zest.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah continued his efforts. Elections were held in Subcontinent
in 1946. Muslim league made its tours in the whole Subcontinent and convinced
the Muslim people about the idea of Pakistan. Muslims shocked the British and
the Hindus when they won all the seats in the elections. At last, it was
declared by the British Viceroy that Subcontinent will gain Independence by
June.3, 1947. An effort was coming to an end but still Hindus tried to
harm Muslims in every possible way. Hindu leaders tried to alter the map drawn
at the time of partition. They also conspired with the British rulers to harm Muslims
in every possible way. Despite of all conspiracies and hurdles, Muslims
of Subcontinent gained their separate country on August. 14, 1947.
It was a stop of a great effort but start of a new era for the Asian Muslims.
Since this day, Pakistani Muslims celebrate August. 14 as their day of
Independence. Muhammad Ali Jinnah is counted among the main founders of
Pakistan and for his large contribution, he is known as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad
Ali Jinnah since present.
He worked so hard after the
formation of Pakistan. He was diagnosed with Tuberculosis but he hid his
disease from all his people and worked till the last day of his life. He made
Pakistan stand on its feet. He addressed the students of Pakistan and made them
believe in their strengths. He inaugurated the State Bank of Pakistan because
he knew that Hindus will never give Muslims their fair amount of money. He
worked at the camp sites during initial days of Pakistan. It was the result of
his efforts that Pakistan gained a membership of The United Nations for
two years. He made his coworkers believe that anything can be achieved through
hard work and true will and it is the result of his true will that Pakistan
stands on the map of the World with pride.
In this month of August, I congratulate
all the Pakistanis a very happy Independence Day. And let me tell you all:
"Today, we Pakistanis are living the dream of so many great people
like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal (RA),
